| It
is based in different periods of the basque history. |
In
one side,
Orreagako
Gudua (The war of Orreaga):
In the VIII century the Basque country was surrounded by powerful
enemies, the independence was at risk. The arabs were a menace
from the south, the bisigods were both west and east and the franks
at the north side
In the year 778n, Carlo Magno had controlled almost the whole
of western Europe, their ambition aimed to expand to Hispania.
On their way to Saragossa, they crossed the Pirinees and destroyed
the walls of Iruña, soon they came back, defeated.
The Basques were raging on revenge and waited in the top of Altibizkarko
(Orreaga) mountain.
That was the greatest victory in the history of the Basques. |
On
the other side, Eneko Aritza:
In
the year 824, 46 years later, Eneko Aritza lead the basques against
the franks. Thus he was crowned as King of Navarre. |
Finally,
The lords:
The enemies of Navarre conquered once more the country and divided
it in several regions. The french in the north and the spaniards
in the south. They arranged governments with local lords and merchants.
The lords betrayed once more the Basque people. |
We
